Ms. Jalexys A. Smith
Meet Jalexys A. Smith, a two-time recipient of P. S. Jones Alumni Scholarships. Jalexys (affectionately known as "Jai") received her first Alumni Scholarship in May of 2013. She attended East Carolina University, and in May 2017 earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health Study

ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS
(Awarded to Beaufort County School Graduates.)
The Education Committee spends 100% of its time dedicated to promoting student awareness of the Scholarship Fund and recruiting donors for the Scholarship Fund. three scholarships are funded through donations from the PSJ HS Alumni Association members and proceeds from the Annual Alumni Banquet and Dance.
- P. S. Jones General Alumni Scholarship awarded for Academic Excellence is largely funded by the Triad Chapter of P. S. Jones Alumni
- P. S. Jones, III Nursing Scholarship awarded to students starting their Nursing training at an area Community College. Scholarship is renewed in the second year of study if student continues enrollment in the Nursing program of study.
Scholarship Application Process:
The Scholarship Committee releases eligibility requirements, applications and application instructions to guidance counselors at Washington High School, Southside High School, and North Side High School by December 1st each year. Counselors are responsible for posting and publicly announcing the availability of these scholarships. The Committee generally visits each school's guidance counselor to follow up and assist if needed. The deadline for submitting applications is May 1st.
The Committee holistically scores each application and chooses the recipients. All Scholarships are presented at individual High School Graduation or Awards ceremonies. Scholarships are for the express purpose of assisting students with tuition or the purchase of school supplies to further their education.
"Maroon and Gold Day"
P. S. Jones Alumni, Inc. sponsors a Biennial Memorial Program to commemorate the history, legacy, and heritage of P S Jones High School. The Program Committee researches and preserves the school's history. The Memorial Program is conducted at the Washington Civic Center on the Saturday morning of the P. S. Jones Reunion. Funds are presently used to preserve the memorial site. In the future, funds will also be used to purchase and maintain a facility in Washington, North Carolina to house memorabilia. Donations from Alumni and friends of "P S Jones High School Fund the Memorial" Program.
